Even if you’re not a seasoned angler, you’ve got to go fishing when you visit Homer, the “Halibut Capitol of the World”.  This area also offers world-class king salmon. For most fishing charters, the season starts in May.

Operators supply all fishing gear and bait. Some charters have smaller “six-pack” boats which take six people, resulting in a shorter day (usually) and the opportunity to rent the entire boat for your group.

A Full-day charter generally takes 1 to 2 ½ hours to reach the fishing grounds, depending on weather, so most charters leave early in the morning. Departures as early as 6am are not uncommon, nor are 10-hour days, so be prepared for a long day on the water. In addition to halibut and salmon you can fish for lingcod and snapper, depending on season.  You might even catch a shark or Irish lord.

  • Lunch, snacks and beverages
  • Motion sickness pills or patches
  • Layered clothing
  • Waterproof, non-slip shoes
